Happy New Year - 2013

It is that time of year when we are all recuperating from the busy end-of-the-year holiday craziness.

We have gotten our class schedule partially finished, and I will post it here as soon as it is done.

The first class currently on the schedule is for Saturday morning, January 19 from 9 - 11.  Terri will introduce you to the world of making polymer clay beads and cabochons.  The cost of this class is $20 and includes all of your materials.

That afternoon, Mary will help you make Valentines with her own special flair.

The 26th, in the morning, Cindy will have a version of the Accordion Card just right for Spring.

As usual, our ever-popular Crafting A-La-Carte is available in a variety of daytime and evening time-frames.

Book-lace
What is Crafting A-La-Carte?  It is time we have set-aside for a class, but we do not schedule anything until someone reserves that time.  The first person to reserve the time chooses what the topic will be and any others that sign up will take that class as well.  We have over 200 classes we can teach, please check our website for a list of classes & descriptions.  If you wish to see a photo, please let us know and we can send you one, or you can stop by to see.  We do need 24 hour advance notice for the A-La-Carte classes so we may be prepared.  Please note that there may be a small number of classes that we cannot do on that short a notice because of special supplies needed.

Remember, spaces fill fast, call today to reserve your space.

What is this Carolina Shop Hop?

You may have heard the buzz about a new event happening next month right here in the Upstate!

What is it?  You ask.  The first EVER Carolina Shop Hop for rubberstamping, scrapbooking & paper arts!

It will run from October 16 - 27 and has 11 stores in the Upstate and Western NC participating.

ALL shops will have free make & takes AND 20% off their crafting supplies!  WOW!

The organizers have compiled some gifts to give for those who visit 8 or more shops as well as those who visit all 11 in the 2 weeks!  YES!  FREE goodies!  Who doesn't like that???

The cost for a ticket is a mere $15.00.  With the ticket (which will be stamped at each store visited) there will also be a tote bag with the Carolina Shop Hop logo (to carry around all of those fabulous deals you will get at each store).

In an earlier post, I listed some of the extra things we will be doing for our 'Home Hoppers' (those who purchase their ticket from The Mercantile.)  These includes an entry into a special drawing JUST FOR 'HOME HOPPERS' for a $30 Mercantile Gift Certificate!

We are also having a tag contest, rules are available in an earlier post, or at the Mercantile.  (I just finished running off some more copies...)

  • Pencil sharpener
  • Frost White ColorBox
  • Various colors of Cat’s Eyes (pigment ink only) - here are Roussillon, Old Rose, Dusty Plum...
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive
  • Heat tool (I will have one with me only, we might need a couple more to make it faster – there is just a quick something to emboss)

Mary's Blog

I know, you are asking "Who is Mary?" Well, Mary is a wonderfully creative stamper who came to us looking for a place to teach some stamping techniques.  This occurred at about the same time that Mom & Dad were beginning to move more and more into retirement.  (NO, they have not left us yet, they always will be a presence at The Mercantile, after all, it was Mom's dream to open the store.)

Mary has a fun, bubbly personality, and tons of talent!  She is currently a member of the Art Impressions Design Team.

Stroll on over to Mary's blog to see some fun things she has done with the "Stroll Down Main Street" project set from Art Impressions.  And, while you are there, see some of the other wonderful things Mary has created.

Welcome Mary!  We had a great turn out for the Make & Take she held this past Saturday, and if you check our web site you will see her schedule for teaching "A Stroll Down Main Street With Mary".

I'll come back and add some pictures of her work later this week...

DragonBen's Flag

Here is an example of how creative people in our family are.
One afternoon, after school, DragonBen (8 1/2) sat down and decided he wanted to make a flag. He drew the elements and cut them out (with a little bit of help on the details from his Mom) and then glued it together.
His Mom (Terri) is the one who created our Happy the Crafting Crab mascot and DragonBen wanted to incude that in his flag (his own version).
We proudly 'fly' this flag from one of the posts behind the cash register.

Make and Take

Don't forget, if you want to make a few cards for the Fall, Birthdays or Christmas, we have a Make and Take going on this Saturday (10/11) from 10 - 5. And again on Tuesday (10/14) from 1 - 5. No reservations needed, just stop by when you can and stay as long as you can.
There are 10 projects to choose from. Each project is $1, but if you purchase $25 of crafting merchandise, they are free.
You can make as many or as few different projects as you wish. We ask that to let others make the projects also that you limit yourself to one of each project.
This is a good way to get a few special cards, get some ideas, or learn a little about stamping and paper crafts. No experience necessary.
Hope to see you then!
